GETTING MARRIED ? MATCH FLOWERS TO YOUR COLOUR SCHEME

This articles provides brides with a starting point for choosing flower varieties to complement the various wedding colour schemes – and regardless whether you’re doing the flower arranging yourself or outsourcing it to a professional florist, it’s always good to start the planning early.

Choosing wedding flowers is an important decision as they need to complement the bride’s outfit as well as those of the whole bridal party, they need to match the theme of the wedding and the style of venue.  They also need to stand up to the rigours of the weather (heat, cold etc) as well as maintain their good looks for the duration of the event – so always consult a florist to find the best options.

White is wonderful

White flowers are traditional for weddings, and look wonderful with an array of complementary accessories (ribbon, organza etc) or foliage.  White roses are the classic choice, with so many other options from gypsophila, carnations, orchids, lilies, daisies, lysianthus, tulips, chrysanthemums, hydrangeas etc, and always check seasonal availability with your florist.

Blue beauty

Whether you’re going for a dark or a light blue theme, these flowers will be truly ‘blue-tiful’ – asters, lisianthus, hydrangeas, delphiniums, larkspur, Canterbury bells, salvia and fragrant lavender.  These look gorgeous when complemented with white or silver flowers and foliage eg eucalyptus or ‘florist’s gum’.

Pretty in pink

If you’re in the pink, the classic choice of roses is always a winner with gerberas, peonies, sweet peas, tulips, ranunculus, carnations and orchids also great choices.   Pink flowers also look fantastic when mixed with browns (eg magnolia or hypericum), lime greens (eg chrysanthemum buttons or spent hydrangea heads, gardenia foliage) or with classic white, but ask your local Perth flowers specialist or online florist for their ideas.

Rev it up with red

For the ultimate declaration of love, red roses make for a red-hot theme, and could be complemented by other fire-engine varieties such as anthiriums, gerberas, amaryllis and poinsettias.   If you’re going with roses, always check with the florist that the buds will open in time for the event.

Breezy yellow

For a bright, sunny theme, yellows and oranges make a really ‘happy arrangement’.  Bright sunny choices include golden rod, dahlias, sunflowers and birds of paradise as well as the seasonal favourites, tulips, daffodils and freesias (but remember to ask the flower delivery specialists if these will be in season).

Beautiful browns

A warm brown theme is anything but boring with browns and cream flowers adding elegance and interest  – look for magnolias (foliage), pussy willow, chrysanthemums, cream roes, nandina and proteas.  Ask your florist for ideas on local indigenous flowers that may also be appropriate.

For every wedding, there are perfect flower choices.  A bit of forward planning goes a long way, say online florist, Perth Florist Direct, so that you make the right choices at the right price.
